Paul Kongkham, MD, PhD, FRCSC

Location: Toronto, ON

We are pleased to announce the recruitment of Dr. Paul Kongkham, a graduate from the University of Toronto Division of Neurosurgery residency training program, obtaining his FRCSC in 2011.  During residency Dr. Kongkham completed his PhD studies as a member of the Surgeon-Scientist Program in the laboratory of Dr. James Rutka of the Hospital for Sick Children. The focus of his PhD was the epigenetic silencing of tumour suppressor genes in pediatric medulloblastoma. Following residency, Dr. Kongkham undertook a one-year clinical fellowship in neurosurgical oncology at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He returns to Toronto Western Hospital to join the neurosurgical faculty, with a clinical interest in treating adult patients with intra-axial primary and secondary brain tumours. His basic science research efforts will examine epigenetic mechanisms contributing to the pathogenesis of both glial tumours and CNS metastases.
